Residents are requested to report problems regarding road conditions
Over the years, countless motorists and ratepayers have exercised their right to complain about the state of Newcastle’s sometimes crumbling infrastructure. Roads in particular are a source of great discontent.

Over the years, countless motorists and ratepayers have exercised their right to complain about the state of Newcastle’s sometimes crumbling infrastructure.
Roads in particular are a source of great discontent.
The intersection of Allen Street and the R34 Memel Road, the corner of York and Amcor streets, Sutherland Street – these were a few examples of roads seemingly giving up.
Failure of these and other roads resulted in potholes, gaps and cave-ins.
The lower portion of Sutherland Street partially collapsed earlier this month, causing a stream of water to gush forth from beneath the road surface.
Bird Street is another example of the decay of roads.
And although the burning issue of ageing infrastructure continues to smolder, senior municipal officials have since highlighted the importance of residents keeping them up to date.
The request is this – report matters to the relevant departments for intervention.
“We do not have people to keep us informed, yet we rely on the public to inform us. We are trying to educate all on this,” one official said.
In relation to the above mentioned roads, potholes were filled in and gaps bridged soon after the matters were brought to the municipality’s attention.
