Certain portions of the pavement and gutter in Richmond Road are wet and messy. Residents living along the street say that a leaking water pipe is the cause and has been leaking for over a year.

The thousands of litres of fresh water that is being wasted every day is a big concern for the residents as well as Uthukela District Municipality’s nonchalant attitude when it comes to repairing the leaks.

Two residents who have to contend with the leak right outside their driveways have dug a makeshift trench to channel the water into the gutter and not their yards.

One of the residents cannot gain entry via a second gate due to the pool of water and overgrown grass that has sprung up at the leak.

“We are trying to save water but Uthukela doesn’t seem bothered,” commented one of the residents. These concerns were passed onto Uthukela District Municipality’s communications division but no response was received at the time of going to print.
