UPDATE: New pipeline placed
Workers on the pipeline have only just finished installing the new connection, which will hopefully restore water services.
Following the collapse of the temporary pipeline at the Ngagane Purification Plant, earlier this morning, the new pipeline has finally been fitted.
The temporary pipeline was put in place to allow workers to install and fit the new pipeline.
Contrary to previous reports from sources, the pipeline was disturbed at the Ngagane Purification Plant, and not Hilldrop reservoir.
This collapse stopped water distribution throughout the day.
Workers on the pipeline have only just finished installing the new connection, which will hopefully restore water services.
“The water will be released in stages to ensure the pipeline does not suffer another collapse and officials can guarantee the connection,” explained DA Councillor, Bebsie Cronje.
Cllr Cronje investigated the situation following numerous complaints received from residents.
She said, “If the valve stays intact, we can only expect water after about 6-8 hours. This is according to an employee at the site.”
Senior municipal officials explained the delay would be caused due to the testing of the new pipeline, and as water levels rise to sustainable levels once more.
