A gift that keeps giving – Raffle winner returns prize
Having raised a substantial amount initially with the Wimpy to Wimpy Cycle race from Dundee to Vryheid, as well as a generous donation from Vryheid Country Club following a Golf Day held for Leo, Vicky was also approached by Wynand Swanepoel, who generously offered to donate a cow to be raffled off in aid of the Leo Small initiative. The value of the cow, at slaughter, is estimated to be approximately R7000-00.
IN TRUE Vryheid fashion, public support has streamed in for the plight of the family of Leo Small.
Vicky Delport, who has been pivotal in recent fundraising efforts, provided Leo with an electric wheelchair, as well as assisting the family in dealing with soaring medical expenses associated with Leo’s care.

Tickets were sold until the end of May and the draw was done on a crisp Winter morning on June 11 at V&R Gym. Wynand Swanepoel drew the winning number in the presence of Vicky Delport and the Vryheid Herald. Thanks to the support of the community, Delport managed to raise in excess of R12 000-00 for Leo on the sale of raffle tickets alone.
The lucky winner of the cow was Carel Foord, who has undertaken to further the fundraising endeavour by donating the cow back to be auctioned off at the end of June, the proceeds of which will go towards the Small family, over and above the money which has already been raised.
