Trucks may not park in residential areas

Truck drivers parking in residential in contravention of municipal bylaws, will not escape legal repercussions.

Truck drivers parking in residential in contravention of municipal bylaws, will not escape legal repercussions.

While acknowledging that trucks contributed to the economy, Chief Traffic Officer, Ashok Anandhaw said municipal bylaws stipulated no heavy vehicles were allowed in a residential area between 8pm and 6am.

“The National Road Traffic Act clearly defines where vehicles may not park or stop. Traffic officials issue citations to offenders. While the work may go unnoticed, available statistics bear testimony.

Chief Anandhaw encouraged the community to report illegally parked trucks to the relevant company and the Newcastle Traffic Department on 034 328 4700.

“If the driver is not the owner of the truck, then there are contact numbers around the vehicle or on the operator card (a disc- similar to the licence disc fitted on the vehicle).”
