A huge opportunity for Citizen

HIS NAME is Citizen Mbatha (21), and he comes from Cliffdale, near Hlobane, an area seeped in unemployment and poverty, and seemingly without opportunity.

He is currently doing his third year in Drama at the Tshwane University of Technology, and was recently blessed with the chance to relocate to Los Angeles, USA, where next year he’d be studying at the New York Film Academy.

In the middle of May he auditioned for the New York Film Academy’s talent-based scholarship at Johannesburg, and because of his hard work and talent was accepted me to study at their institution next year. In addition, the Academy also awarded him a $7,000 (+/- R80,000) scholarship.

“This is an enormous opportunity that comes once in a lifetime and I’ve firmly seized it with both of my hands. I’m now in dire need of my entire nation’s support to help me with continuing the odyssey and reach the pinnacle.

“It is an opportunity I’d humbly like to utilize as an epitome of inspiration, and be a figure who’s worth emulating – who defeated all odds to make it big on an international stage – Hollywood.
