Government cracks down on liquor licence holders
During the SANCA's drug awareness week and the Child Protection Week, the organisation partnered with SAPS and Department of Social Development to host various awareness presentations at schools, clinics and community groups across the district.
According to its mission, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) hosted National Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week on June, 22 to 26.
The week before was Child Protection Week.
SANCA facilitates the development, expansion and sustainability of outcome-based addiction services in South Africa by providing training and consultancy, and initiates programmes to highlight the dangers of substances, such as drugs and alcohol.
SANCA Newcastle’s Lilian Gajoo said drug-related problems were a scourge in today’s society, affecting children as young as nine.
“People are finally waking up to see this as a real problem.”
During the SANCA’s drug awareness week and the Child Protection Week, the organisation partnered with SAPS and Department of Social Development to host various awareness presentations at schools, clinics and community groups across the district.
Presentations were held as far as Charlestown, oSizweni, Msinga, Tugela and Glencoe.
The message to the youth was, “I am fine without drugs.”
