Watery mess in family’s front yard
"I am concerned about the safety of my children as well as that of other children who come to our house to play
A growing pool of stagnant water greets you when you visit the Ghasitha’s home in Railway Street and it is not a pretty sight.
Since May 1 the family has been sharing their front yard with a leaking water pipe, which Uthukela District Municipality dug up to repair.
But like most stories go, the burst pipe was not repaired immediately, which resulted in the water leak forming a large pool of murky water.
The Ghasitha family say that they have queried about the pipe repair from Uthukela District Municipality staff several times but no satisfactory response was given, until eventually the staff member could not be reached via his cell phone at all.
“I am concerned about the safety of my children as well as that of other children who come to our house to play. One of them could easily fall into the water, which almost two meters deep,” said Mr Ghasitha.
Uthukela District Municipality’s Communications Manager Jabulani Mkhonza was alerted of the family’s concerns and promptly responded.
Mr Mkhonza said that the complaint has been referred to the area manager in Umtshezi and commented that it would be addressed by Tuesday, June 30.
