Daffodil street dumping grounds
"It's an eyesore and they don't care. They think this is a dumping ground," said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Residents on Daffodil Place, Lennoxton are greeted by an eyesore everyday.
The vacant plot of municipal land at the end of the street has become a dumping ground for rubble and refuse. Allegedly, the problem began just over a year ago, and although the matter has been reported to the municipality on many occasions, the mess remains.
The aggrieved residents allege the perpetrators are other residents of the area who send their workers to dump their garbage on the plot if they miss the municipal truck.
“It’s an eyesore and they don’t care. They think this is a dumping ground,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
“The wind is blowing all the dirt into my yard,” complained another resident.
Ward 3 councillor, Mathew Shunmugam, said he was doing all he could to address the situation.
“My job is to receive the complaint, and then forward it to the relevant department to take care of. As councillors, our code of conduct doesn’t allow us to supervise other departments’ matters. The problem lies in a lack of adequate systems and processes to deal with these issues.”
