Weeks worth of water wasted

A water leak on the corner of Greaves and Earl streets was left unattended for almost two weeks.
A resident reported the leak to the municipality on June 22, but it was only fixed on July 3 after intervention by Dr Dumisani Thabethe, Water Services Customer Care Manager, whose attention was drawn to the problem.
“They tell us to save water and report leaks, but they need to do their part too,” said the resident who wanted to remain anonymous.
Dr Thabethe said the delay was out of the ordinary and he would investigate the matter to prevent something like that happening in future.
“Larger leaks and more important maintenance tasks are given priority over lesser issues; this could have been what had happened here, it’s hard to tell,” he said.
Residents are urged to report leaks and burst pipes to the call centre on 0860 144 144.
