Newcastle Municipality has taken action following complaints from residents of Daffodil Place regarding dumping on the vacant plot of municipal land at the end of the street.

Nick Swanepoel of Waste Management undertook to remedy the problem.

“We will clean the area during the course of the week. It is not economically or practically feasible to install ‘no dumping’ signs at all the dumping hot spots in the Newcastle area but we will install ‘no dumping’ signs in this area shortly.”

The ongoing problem had been reported to the municipality on many occasions. On July 7, municipal workers eventually cleared up most of rubble. A few days later they returned to erect the promised ‘No Dumping’ sign.

Waste management urged residents to put out their refuse on normal collection days. Large volumes of garden waste or building rubble may be dropped off at Farmers Hall or the waste disposal site.
