Wrapping up a blazing week

According to statistics compiled by Protection Services, the week ending July 20 saw almost 30 fires breaking out across Newcastle.

The region remains in the smoking grip of fire season.

According to statistics compiled by Protection Services, the week ending July 20 saw almost 30 fires breaking out across Newcastle.

Of these, 18 were burning grass, veld or rubbish.

Fire Services also responded to two fires at commercial properties and five incidents where blazes broke out at homes.

In addition, 10 collisions occurred.

Protection Services officials have urged residents to report fires, collisions or any other incidents to the Emergency Communication Centre on 034 312 1222.

This is a 24-hour centre.
