Municipal skip, woes of wasted rubbish

The removal of a municipal skip in Asnika Crescent, Suryaville, upset residents as litterbugs merely discarded rubbish where the skip had once stood.

Wishing to remain anonymous, a resident vented outrage as rubbish would often contain soiled nappies and leftover food. Dogs ripping the refuse bags open contributed to further mess.

While the municipal skip has recently been restored to its original spot, Cllr Matthew Shunmugam has urged residents not to abuse it.

“The municipality decided to remove the skips where there was abuse. Hopefully, the bins would not be abused, or residents will have to find alternate means of disposing of their garden refuse. These bins are not for depositing domestic refuse. Residents pay for that service and domestic refuse is removed once a week,” he said.
