Beware of bogus SASSA representatives

KwaZulu-Natal South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has issued a warning to the public regarding unscrupulous financial service providers preying on social grant beneficiaries.

It has come to SASSA’s attention that representatives of certain financial service providers travel the province, issuing bank cards under the false pretense of representing SASSA.

SASSA has put it on record that the organisation is not issuing new cards. The only SASSA card you will receive will be from the SASSA offices when applying for a social grant. If a card is lost, it can only be replaced at SASSA offices. “We want to warn our social grant beneficiaries about these unscrupulous financial service providers. SASSA does not issue SASSA cards on the streets. We are also not in the process of issuing new SASSA cards,” said SASSA Regional Executive Manager, Pearl Bengu.

An increasing number of cases regarding illegal deductions to social grants for airtime, electricity, insurances and other products that beneficiaries have never purchased resulted in SASSA issuing a second warning. “We are calling upon all beneficiaries who have experienced these deductions to visit their nearest SASSA office to report their cases,” concluded Bengu.
