Plans for new private hospital are back to square one

The proposed new private hospital is back at the drawing board.

In a meeting of the Executive Committee (Exco) at the end of July, an item on the agenda touched on the proposed site for this new development.

At the time, the matter had already gone out to tender.

This tender was subject to the tenderer receiving approval and being in possession of a licence to establish a medical facility, as required by the Department of Health. However, only one tenderer had thus qualified.

Previously, it was asked if it was futile to undergo a tendering process, or simply liaise directly with the approved tenderer. This became subject of continued debate. Other tenderers who applied to erect the private hospital reportedly expressed unhappiness, claiming their qualifications were pending. After some discussion, Exco members sent the matter back to the drawing board.
