IF YOU DON’T know what day your rubbish is picked up, then phone the municipality at 034 982 2133, get through to Community Services at extension 2255, and ask them. That will partly prevent your neighbourhood being turned into a garbage-strewn mess.
The black bags of rubbish on the sidewalk were seen in Republiek Street, above Church Street, on Friday, and photographed by a resident who knows that in that area the rubbish is collected on Mondays. The resident predicted that the bags would be torn open by roaming dogs and the rubbish strewn all over the area.
He was right.
On Monday morning he photographed the same bags in the same spot, right next to a sign saying “No dumping by order AbaQulusi – R2,000 fine”.
The area on Monday was a mess.
The rubbish collectors do not have the time, and nor is it their job, to pick up individual scraps of rubbish. In effect, by putting out rubbish on a day which is not the designated day for collections, turns the area into a mini dumpsite.
