UPDATE: Investigation launched into wall collapse
Newcastle Municipality has launched an investigation into the wall collapse that claimed one life and injured three others on August 13.
Tragedy struck on August 13, when a wall in Ayliff Street collapsed, killing a worker and injuring three others.
The men had been plastering the wall, which was meant to form part of a newly erected garage, when a sudden gust of wind had apparently caused a bubble effect within the building.
Since then, the Newcastle Municipality has launched an investigation into the matter.
Captain Shooz Magudulela, police spokesperson, said the police have opened an inquest to investigate the matter.
Sudesh Singh, the owner of the building, extended his sympathies to those affected.
“We are sorry for what happened, and our thoughts are with the deceased and his family. We tried to make it as safe as possible,” he said.
