BREAKING NEWS: Burglars wreak havoc at Oval Track

Burglars have targeted the Oval Track again, leaving behind a trail of destruction in their wake.

“We had a committee meeting yesterday evening and when we got to the track, we saw a small group of men running away,” said Boet Buys, chairperson of the Oval Track committee.

The men were spotted fleeing from the club house.

It was first thought the men had broken in there, but upon investigation, the matter was worse than imagined.

The track’s ablution facilities were broken into.

While in the toilet area, the perpetrators broke light fixtures, stole the copper wires, broke sinks in order to get the taps, and even went as far as to vandalise the toilets.

Adding to the insult, the suspects went so far as to start a fire outside the toilet facilities and defecate on the concrete.

Furthermore, one of buildings at the track were also broken into.

In the building, the roof and light fixtures were damaged, and electrical cables were also stolen.

“We had the cables plastered into the wall to avoid this kind of thing, but if they want to steal cables, they will,” Mr Buys said dejectedly.

A portion of the track’s fencing was also stolen.

The Oval Track has been targeted by burglars several times over the past year and it is speculated the homeless people living under the Hardwick Bridge are responsible.

“I am so tired of this. We are trying to build something up for the community, but we are not getting the right support,” Mr Buys concluded.
