SARS to arrive next month
Mr Pieters said the greater NKZN area can look forward to a fully-fledged SARS office, where businesses and residents can handle all tax-related matters under one roof.
No more will Newcastillians drive long ways for tax purposes.
Instead of trekking to Standerton or Pietermaritzburg to sign a document or submit banking details, the SARS Newcastle branch will be opening in about a month’s time.
The Newcastle Growth Coalition made the confirmation on Tuesday.
“The Coalition can confirm SARS will open its doors here at the end of October or beginning of November,” said Coalition spokesman, Johan Pieters.
The Coalition expected the developers to hand over the building, situated at the Victorian Mall on Scott Street, to SARS before the month’s end.
The location was based on foot traffic in the area.
SARS is expected to become the second-biggest tenant at the Victorian Theatres complex, with a projected influx of more than 1 000 residents from across Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
“The property owners have upped their security for this reason.”
Mr Pieters said the greater NKZN area can look forward to a fully-fledged SARS office, where businesses and residents can handle all tax-related matters under one roof.
In addition, the local SARS branch has already been dubbed an economic boon for the town.
“Not only will the branch staff from SARS move to Newcastle, but also people visiting the branch will make a day of their visit. Restaurants, malls, filling stations and more will be well-supported. Money from out of town is money spent into the Newcastle economy.”
Beyond SARS, Mr Pieters also hinted at further growth heading our way in months to come.
