Hydrant dampens land

It is unsure why a fire hydrant on Vittaria Street, Fernwood, is standing in a pool of water.

It is unsure why a fire hydrant on Vittaria Street, Fernwood, is standing in a pool of water.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous, claimed the puddle of water was noticed a month ago.

While he did not report the matter, he claimed the puddle had been increasing in size by the day.

Municipal investigations found the hydrant was not leaking.

“We have since opened the hydrant for further investigation,” said Dr Dumisani Thabethe the Water Services Customer Relations Manager.

He explained fire hydrants were often vandalised, and encouraged the community to report all water and sanitation complaints to the call centre at 0860 144 144
