A contractor representative claimed 95 per cent of the work had been done, with only the surfacing of the artery road still outstanding.
“We should be done by October 27,” he said.
The current phase of the project, it was explained, was to rehabilitate the existing road, part of the planned widening of the street to at least four lanes.
It is believed the road should have a ten-year life expectancy.
In the meantime, residents said the halting of traffic was a distinct nuisance, and trenches dug for laying of infrastructure were potentially hazardous.
“There are so many cars in the area, motorists need to be cautious.”
Motorists are urged to be vigilant and patient when using that portion of Allen Street, owing to temporary stop streets as a result of traffic lights not operating.
