A 30-year-old businessman was walking away from his shop in the Kirkintulloch area yesterday (September 28) when he was accosted by two suspects armed with a firearm. The suspects bundled the man into his car and then drove off with the vehicle.
They later left the man tied up in the Driefontein area before disappearing with his vehicle, two cell-phones and cash.
The man managed to untie himself and made his way to Ladysmith police station last night.
Police opened a case of carjacking and went in search of the two suspects, one of whom is reportedly an ex-employee.
Early this morning, the two suspects, aged 21 and 17, arrived at the police station claiming they had hijacked the man as part of a joke to teach him a lesson.
Members of the Ladysmith K9 Unit were on hand to interview the two and later recovered the stolen vehicle hidden in the Kirkintulloch area. Police are still searching for the cell-phones and cash.
Police have arrested the two, who, at this stage, face charges of hijacking.
