While busy with an investigation of theft cases, Ladysmith Detective Services tracked down a stolen cell-phone to the Newcastle area on Thursday (September 29).
The owner of the cell-phone had been at a tavern in the Ladysmith CBD during June this year when he was pickpocketed.
Police recovered the phone and arrested a 26-year-old suspect for the theft.
The suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
In a second separate incident of theft, the suspect not only “stole” the heart of her victim but also items from his house.
The victim, aged 43, met a 19-year-old woman through a social media site. He then invited her to stay at his house in Ladysmith during a visit. Trustingly, he left the woman alone at home and went to work.
When he returned, he found her gone, along with his cash, laptop and other items.
Police traced the suspect to the Mvunyana area, Vryheid, where she was arrested. Some of the stolen property was recovered.
The suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of theft.
