Mpumelelo ‘Mpume’ Mbatha was shot in his driveway in the Hospital Park area last night.
He was the manager in the office of the uThukela District Mayor.
Armed men shot him and drove away.
He sustained three gunshot wounds to the chest, shoulder and neck.
EMRS paramedics were exiting the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital gates when they saw the injured man and immediately rushed him to hospital.
However, it was too late to save his life.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
