The Ladysmith Regional Court convicted 22-year-old Nhlakanipho Wellington Dladla for rape on Friday, September 30, sentencing him to 15 years’ imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
This follows an incident which happened on October 18, 2014, in the Tsakane area when a 28-year-old woman and her boyfriend had fallen asleep in a room inside a house full of their friends after a party.
At one point during the night, the woman awoke to find the accused raping her, while her boyfriend lay asleep beside her.
She screamed for help and the accused left. Her boyfriend woke up and went looking for the accused, who had run away naked. The boyfriend managed to track him down.
Police were alerted and the accused was immediately arrested. The case was investigated by Constable Nokwazi Mazibuko.
