MORE than two years after her innocence was brutally stolen, justice has finally been served for a 13-year-old victim of rape from Paulpietersburg.

Mandla Mkhonza (37) was sentenced to 20 years in prison for rape and kidnapping after being found guilty on both charges at the Vryheid Regional Court on Thursday.

According to SAPS corporate communications officer, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, the teen had been walking along Bilanyoni Road at about 6pm on May 29, 2014, when Mr Mkhonza grabbed her and took her by force to his house, where he raped her.

“The local police were contacted and a case of rape was opened at the Paulpietersburg police station. The docket was later transferred to the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation, which led to the arrest of the accused. The accused then made several court appearances, before he was finally convicted and sentenced,” said Mr Mkhonza.

On Thursday, Mr Mkhonza was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape and 5 years imprisonment for kidnapping.
