NEWCASTLE – The Chinese community was left reeling at the tragic passing of Meiying Gao-Chen on October 9.

Mrs Gao-Chen was a victim of a robbery gone wrong, after three armed men stormed her store in Bob Centre, oSizweni and chaos broke out.
She was shot in the shoulder and attempted to hide behind the till.
Sadly, a stray bullet hit Mrs Gao-Chen in the head, and speculation at the time was she had been gunned down execution style.

Her husband, Fuping Chen received the call and rushed to the scene.
With his wife cradled in his arms, Mr Chen immediately drove to the hospital and desperately hung on to the hope she would survive.
She passed away en-route to the hospital.
Investigating officers managed to arrest and charge three suspects for the heinous crime, who were due to appear in court on November 20, 2015.

However, the case was postponed at the last minute, pending investigation by the Hawks.
