Man who took advantage of mentally disabled woman jailed

A man who took advantage of a young, mentally disabled woman by raping her on Christmas Day 2013 has put been jailed for eight years.
The Newcastle Court heard how Nkululekho Kinati Ngobese (22) confronted the woman who was walking to a Christmas party at her sister’s house in the Kingsley area.
Ngobese, whose home is adjacent to that of the victim, pushed her on to the grass and claimed he was ‘in love with her’ He removed her clothing and forced himself on her.
He then left he and the woman continued walking to her sister’s house after dressing herself.
It was only when she returned home in the evening that she told her aunt what had happened to her earlier in the day.
The police were called and the suspect was soon arrested. It is said that the suspect is also mentally ill, despite the fact that he was sent for mental assessments and was found to be fit to stand trial for what he had done. Further evidence was found that linked him to the crime and the victim was also able to give an account in court of what had happened.
Ngobese was found guilty and sentenced him to eight years imprisonment.
The case was reported in Kingsley and the docket handed to Dundee’s FCS Unit for further investigation. Cst LNL Hlela saw the docket through to court. Captain F Fuller, Unit Commander, gave thanks to Cst Hlela for the way in which she conducted the investigation into this very intricate matter. “Having forced sexual intercourse with a person who is mentally challenged is a serious offence and it will not be taken lightly,” Captain Fuller said.
