NEWCASTLE – A traditional medicine shop in Murchison Street, LKM Arcade was the latest target of a business burglary.

It is believed, the burglary occurred between the afternoon of October 5 and the early morning of October 6.
Shop owner, Thandi Khakie said when she locked the shop for the day on October 5, everything was in place.
“I closed up as I always do and made sure all the doors were locked,” she said.
Mrs Khakie sews custom-made curtains, duvets and traditional clothing in the shop where she also sells traditional medicine.
Receiving a call the next morning, from a neighbouring shop owner, notifying her that her back door was ajar, Mrs Khakie immediately rushed to her shop; at noticed the burglar guards were cut and the lock that use to secure it was missing.
She contacted the police and ensured nothing was touched.
Duvets, shoes, clothing, curtains, laptops, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money were reported stolen.
“Police are investigating a case of business burglary and further investigations continue,” said SAPS Communication Liaison and Marketing officer, Lizzy Arumugam.
“Two weeks ago the owner next to me was also robbed. The crime in this area is increasing drastically,” concluded Mrs Khakie.
