Police made one arrest and seized a large quantity of illegal liquor on Thursday.
Ladysmith Visible Policing officers who were keeping an eye on a residential premises in the Limit Hill area made a breakthrough on Thursday afternoon when they found that the premises was being used as an unlicensed liquor outlet.
A 45-year-old man was arrested and R3000 worth of liquor was seized during the operation.
The suspect paid an ‘admission of guilt’ fine of R3000.
Police are targeting unlicensed establishments such as these because they are generally a haven for criminal activity. They are also not bound by laws which prohibit the sale of liquor to minors and people who are already drunk.
It has also been found that liquor is a contributor to crime, especially in serious cases such as rape, murder and assault.
