Disgruntled protestors block R74

A service delivery protest flared up on the R74 route between Weenen and Colenso since Friday, October 21. The enraged protestors demonstrated their frustration by blocking off the route.

The road is obstructed with stones and branches and other objects. Traffic is currently being diverted through Estcourt.

The protesting residents are furious that the municipality is failing to provide basic services, such as electricity to their communities. RTI officers and Estcourt SAPS are on scene monitoring the situation.

It’s believed that Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, Mayor Jabulile Mbhele addressed the residents, when they went on in unrest and refused to be addressed any further.
