Police clamp down on inter-group violence in Ezakheni

The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine whether they were used to commit any crimes in the country

Focusing on the inter-group violence in Ezakheni, police arrested four people and recovered six unlicensed firearms, along with 42 rounds of ammunition, over the weekend. This was as a result of intelligence-driven operations in the UThukela Cluster, together with the Provincial Deployment.

On Friday, police arrested a 35-year-old man in Bombay Road. He was found in possession of an unlicensed .38 special revolver and five rounds of ammunition.

On Sunday, a 44-year-old man was arrested in the Mcitsheni area of Ezakheni. He was found in possession of a .38 special revolver, a 7.65 pistol, a .22 rifle and 30 rounds of ammunition.

On the same day, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Ezakheni A-Section after he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and two rounds of ammunition.

During the early hours of yesterday morning (October 25), a 51-year-old man was arrested in the Newlands area of Wembezi. He was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition.

All the suspects will appear in various courts across the Uthukela Cluster, where they face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to determine whether they were used to commit any crimes in the country.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, applauded the officers for their dedication that led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of unlicensed firearms. “We will conduct the investigation quickly to collect all evidence that will lead the suspects to be convicted and sentenced,” he said.
