Update: Heroic officers glad that baby is safe

The officers said they immediately responded by asking people at the taxi rank and surrounding areas if anyone had seen the baby

Two fast-acting police officers, Sergeant S Fourie and Constable TT Zungu, have certainly made Ladysmith proud.

This after they found a baby that had been taken from its mother in the CBD on Tuesday afternoon.

The devastated mother arrived at Ladysmith police station after her six-week-old baby was taken away by a young woman who befriended her at a shopping centre in the CBD.

The young woman expressed interest in the child and the mother allowed her to hold the baby. The suspect then offered to play with the child while the mother finished her shopping. When the mother was done, she found that the young woman and her child were both gone.

Sgt Fourie and Const Zungu were on duty at the police station when the distraught woman arrived. With hearts of gold, they traced the suspect and the stolen baby to Ezakheni.

In an exclusive interview with the Ladysmith Gazette, the officers said they immediately responded by asking people at the taxi rank and surrounding areas if anyone had seen the baby.

The officers are thankful that the baby is safe and unharmed, and that justice will be served. “All we want is to stop crime and make sure our town is always safe,” commented Sgt Fourie.
