Neighbourhood Watch intercepts robbers on the run
The suspects are believed to be linked to a spate of robberies,
SIX men were arrested recently in connection with a robbery at a cellphone store in Richards Bay.
The suspects, believed to be linked to a spate of other similar robberies, were apprehended with the assistance of
Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch, after their escape route led them through Vryheid.
On October 29, it is believed that the suspects robbed Vodacom Boardwalk in Richards Bay of two bags of cellphones at gunpoint. No shots were fired, but the perpetrators fled the scene in a black /dark blue BMW with an NRB registration plate.
Members of Neighbourhood Watch, along with SAPS and other authorities worked tirelessly to gather information relating to the whereabouts of the suspects and their efforts paid off, with the suspects being apprehended at approximately 8.30pm, in a Toyota Quantum, near Newcastle at a roadblock.
All of the stolen cellphones were recovered, as well as a diary containing a list of all the cellphones in the shop, and the BMW was recovered in Vryheid.
