A total of 118 firearms were seized by KwaZulu-Natal police between October 1 and 31, with the arrest of more than 130 suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition.
This is as a result of operations conducted in the province by different clusters, including Ethekwini, Uthukela, Umgungundlovu, UMkhanyakude and ILembe.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa has commended KZN police on the arrests and the seizure of the illegal firearms over the past month. “We will continue to root out the proliferation of illegal firearms in the province to make it a safer place for its citizens, and prevent serious and violent crimes.”
The recovered firearms include pistols, revolvers, rifles and homemade guns, with an assortment of 868 live rounds of ammunition. The accused have appeared in different magistrate’s courts in the province.
