House break-ins are a crime that is described as contact and in every way personal. Intruders invade your space, loot your home and steal from you and in the worst cases, hurt or kill the victims.
Often communities plagued by spates of home robberies call on police to apprehend the suspects speedily and to halt criminals in their tracks, by using intelligence and instinct. In such a case, Provincial Task Team deployed in the Uthukela Cluster accompanied by The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS) intercepted three men who they believe were on their way to commit a crime.
The three men, aged between 30 and 40-years were travelling via minibus when they were stopped by the alert members.
“Various tools that could be used to break into the premises were found in the vehicle,” commented police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
Police suspect that the trio were on their way to break into a business in the Bergville central business district. The men were promptly arrested.
“The three have been charged for being in possession of housebreak-in implements and the vehicle has been seized as evidence,” added Lt Col Zwane.
The three men appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 2. The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, praised the team for preventing the crime from being committed.
“The police in the province are on the lookout for suspects and we are warning all criminals that they will be caught and face the music,” he said.
