Two suspects nabbed for attempted murder

Both men appeared in the Bergville Magistrate's Court on Friday, November 18 where they face charges of attempted murder and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

A case of attempted murder has been opened and two suspects have been arrested after they fired shots at a 60-year-old man in the Emcijeni area, Bergville.

The man sustained injuries and a case was opened at the Ematsheni Police Station. On Thursday, November 17, police made a breakthrough when they arrested two men, aged 24 and 35, while they were walking along the Dukuza/Mazizni Road.

“During their arrest they were found in possession of a 9mm pistol and eight rounds of ammunition. It is believed that the same pistol was used during the attempted murder case. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if it was used in the attempted murder and if it may also have been used to commit crime elsewhere in the country,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
