Madadeni Regional Court sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for rape on Wednesday, November 30.
“According to police reports, on January 26, 2013, at about 7.15 pm, the 20-year-old victim was on her way home when she was accosted by the accused,” said Captain Nqobile Gwala of the KwaZulu-Natal Media Corporate Communications Department.

The accused raped the victim and took her cellphone. A case of rape was opened and investigated by the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
The accused was arrested and kept in custody up until he was sentenced.
