Various Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in KwaZulu-Natal recently secured 59 convictions in sexual-related cases.
A total of 365 suspects were arrested in November for cases such as rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, child neglect, attempted murder, house robbery, contravening of a protection order and other crimes.
Nine life imprisonment sentences and a total of 550 years in jail were handed down to the convicted accused. The accused were convicted by various courts in the province after they were found guilty of sexual-related offences.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa applauded these successes achieved by the FCS units. “These sentences prove that our units will make sure that all sexual offenders are locked safely behind bars for a very long time,” he said.
