Unlicensed pistols seized in Bergville

Both suspects were in possession of unlicensed 9mm pistols with three magazines and nine rounds of ammunition

An intelligence driven operation carried out on Thursday evening, December 1 resulted in the arrest of two men for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Bergville.

“Officers from the Ladysmith Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit, Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Newcastle Public Order Policing Unit (POP) spent most of the evening searching for the suspects and firearms,” said police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The operation proved successful when two suspects aged 30 and 35 were arrested in the Bergville area.

Both suspects were in possession of unlicensed 9mm pistols with three magazines and nine rounds of ammunition. The suspects appeared before the Bergville Magistrate’s court on Monday, December 5.
