Over 50 sexual offenders sentenced to jail

Nine life term imprisonments were handed to convicts, and a total of 550 years' imprisonment will be served.

Various Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units (FCS) around KwaZulu-Natal secured 59 convictions on various sexual related cases in November and December.

A total of 365 suspects were arrested during November for rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, child neglect, attempted murder, house robbery, contravening of protection orders and other crimes.

Nine life term imprisonments were handed to convicts, and a total of 550 years’ imprisonment will be served.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa applauded these successes of the FCS units.

“These sentences prove that our units will make sure that all the sexual offenders are locked behind the bars for a very long time,” he said.
