Criminals race away with fencing

Brazen thieves allegedly made off with a portion of the Oval Track's perimeter fence.

Brazen thieves allegedly made off with a portion of the Oval Track’s perimeter fence.

“The fence was still intact during our last racing event on November 26, but when I came to the track on Friday, December 9, a section was stolen. When I came on Monday, December 12, another part was stolen,” said Johann de Jager of the Oval Track committee.

Approximately 100 metres of the fence were stolen during the two separate incidents.

“If things carry on like this, we will no longer have a fence by the end of the month,” Mr de Jager said dejectedly.

The fence was erected at a cost of R20 000 after pipes, poles, copper cables and wiring for light fixtures had been stolen from the racing facilities earlier this year.

Mr de Jager has appealed to the community to contact relevant authorities if they have any information pertaining to the perpetrators.
