Axe-wielding man arrested for murder

A 55-year-old man from the Dannhauser area has been arrested after he brutally murdered Xolani Khumalo (38) with a small axe (tomahawk).

Mr Khumalo, a resident of Annieville Farm, and a friend (whose name has been withheld for his own protection), were approached by the axe-wielding man who struck Mr Khumalo several times on the head with the axe.

When his friend tried to intervene, he too was assaulted on the head and ribs.

Mr Khumalo was rushed to a local clinic where he later died.

The murder accused appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrates Court and the matter has been remanded to January 11.
