A killer is in prison after DNA evidence placed him at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Ezakheni.
25-year-old Lindokuhle Alfred Langa was stabbed to death outside a tavern in the St Chad’s area of Ezakheni on September 9, 2015. It is alleged that he was called out of the tavern by a man and as he exited, he was stabbed in the chest. He managed to get himself back into the tavern, where he collapsed and died. The suspect fled the scene.
Police were informed, and the detective officer who attended to the scene secured valuable information and immediately went out in search of the suspect.
33-year-old Xolani Zimba was arrested at his girlfriend’s residence in the Zwelisha area of St Chad’s a short while later.
He was found in possession of a blood-stained T-shirt.
The shirt was seized as evidence and later sent off for DNA analysis.
The accused appeared in the Ezakheni Regional Court and later applied for bail, which was granted.
The case was finalised recently and Zimba was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
The DNA evidence that was found on the T-shirt placed the accused at the crime scene.
