1. Read

Read with your kids as much as you can throughout the holiday. This will help prepare them for the new year.

2. Go shopping

Involve your child while doing the school shopping, and make sure you allow them to choose what they like and don’t like.

3. Prepare the ‘early bird’ routine

Start getting yourself and your child back into the early morning routine. Another great way to prepare for the early mornings is to make sure most of your work is done the night before, such as preparing lunch boxes and outfits.

4. Create back to school excitement

Do something fun to get your children excited for back to school. Why not host a back to school party for the children in the neighbourhood. Serve them sweet treats and snacks and maybe hand out stationary gift packs.

5. A special gift

Try giving your children a small gift on their first day back at school. A colouring-in book and crayons should do the trick. It helps add to the excitement of the day.

6. Make family time a responsibility

Although a school schedule can be hectic, and homework can up much time, always make sure that throughout the mayhem, family time is made a responsibility.

10. Get back into routine

Start getting your children back into a routine at least a week before the school starts. This means normal supper, bath and bed time.
