During the course of this week, the Ladysmith and Estcourt stock theft units achieved successes in four stock theft cases they are investigating. The officers recovered seven cattle and 21 goats.
One suspect, aged 46, has been arrested and charged for stock theft. The suspect appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (January 12).
The recovered animals were stolen in the Ekuvukeni, Ematsheni and Ladysmith areas.
The livestock is valued at R114,000.
KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa commended the police on the arrests and the recoveries. “We are appealing to stock owners to make sure they brand mark their livestock so they will be easier to identify when lost,” he said.
