During the course of the weekend, police worked hard to continue the clean-up in the Ezakheni area.
On Friday (January 13), officers attached to Public Order Policing (POP) units from Newcastle and Pietermaritzburg worked with intelligence gatherers from the Uthukela Cluster and the Free State.
During the operation, three men aged 28, 35 and 38 were found in possession of illegal firearms. Two of the three have since been linked to robberies that were committed in the Harrismith area.
Three 9mm pistols and several rounds of ammunition were recovered.
All three men appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Monday (January 16). They face charges of being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
All the firearms will be subject to ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of crimes anywhere in the country.
