‘Hikers’ strike back
Less than a week after the sign went up, it appears that it is already on its way down, allegedly at the hands of travelers who once utilised this spot to thumb a lift in their daily commute.
DISGRUNTLED hitchhikers wasted very little time in displaying their distaste at the recently erected ‘No Hiking’ sign in Church Street.
Less than a week after the sign went up, it appears that it is already on its way down, allegedly at the hands of travelers who once utilised this spot to thumb a lift in their daily commute.
A bystander reported seeing the sign being vandalised by a group of people, suspected to be unhappy hitchhikers, barely a week after it went up. The recently painted red lines, followed by the ‘No stopping’ sign, as well as the ‘No hiking’ sign, were all put in place to put an end to the violence and intimidation against motorists by taxi drivers keen to protect their “slice of the pie” as it were.
But the blatant removal of their right to hitchhike has clearly left these travelers with a bitter taste in their mouths and some report that they prefer to hitchhike, not only because of the cost, but because they don’t feel safe in taxis.
