Beware: Dog poisoning hits Ladysmith hard with ‘Two-Step’

The poison is put into meat or anything a dog can swallow

Pet owners are warned to be vigilant after numerous complaints have been received of dogs that have been poisoned with ‘Two-Step’ (pesticide known as Temik) in the Ladysmith area.

Many dogs have fallen victim to this fast-acting poison. Only five grams, the size of a teaspoon, is enough to kill several dogs in a neighbourhood.

Temik (colloquially called Two Step) comes in the form of tiny black or bluish granules, with criminals using this poison to gain access to properties where there are dogs. The poison is put into meat or anything a dog can swallow.

The Cilliers family in Daffodil Crescent had their dog poisoned on Friday night. On arriving home on Friday evening, they found their dog, Savannah, vomiting in the yard and not eating or drinking at all. They phoned veterinarians and others who have been affected, only to find that their family pet had been poisoned. They tried their very best to help Savannah, but she still wouldn’t eat anything.

This morning (January 29), the dog was still in a bad state.

A local private ambulance service provided the Cilliers family with much-needed help in the form of a drip, which was attached to little Savannah to help her body recover from dehydration.

After being put on the drip, it looks like the dog will pull through, as she is back on her feet and even barking again.

All dog owners should be watchful of what is thrown into their yards and also what their pets are eating, as this poison can kill.

The Cilliers family is thankful for the help they received from the ambulance service.
