The victim intervened and told the suspect that he was clearly in the wrong. The suspect then shot Mr Sithole in the back, fatally wounding him.

SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam said the suspect was facing charges of murder, attempted murder and reckless driving.

He appeared in court in December and was granted bail. After appearing in court again in January, the trial was adjourned once again, pending further investigations.

A new court date will be decided on in February.

Mrs Arumugam warned perpetrators that aggressive driving would not be tolerated by members of the law, and said road rage was a growing concern and a real threat to the safety of all road users.

“Any disorderly behaviour by drivers, performed deliberately and with ill intention or disregard for safety, can constitute aggressive driving. In extreme cases, this may escalate to road rage, which is a violent criminal act involving the intention to cause physical harm.”
